According to the latest reports from the English Department of Health,, (12/6/2014), abortions in the Republic of Ireland declined by 45% over the past 12 years since its peak in 2001, The rate of abortions on residents of England and Wales is 5 times that of the Republic for 2013.
There are no current rates available for Scotland but in 2012, it was pretty much the same as England & Wales. Northern Ireland is a case on its own and shows that as far as the right to life of the unborn is concerned, the two Irish jurisdictions are on the same wavelength. And we have mainly the Protestant community to thank for that. With few exception, Sinn Fein is not pro-life and other Catholic legislators do not, in the main, seem over- enthusiastic.
In 2012, abortions in Northern Ireland were 3.5% of live-births
It was 5.5% in the Republic, 21, 8% in Scotland and 24% in England and Wales.
In 2013, allowing 50 abortions in N.I. itself and 802 in England the rate is still 3.5% of live-births
while that of the Republic is 5.3%.
