ABORTIONS ON RESIDENTS OF REPUBLIC OF IRELAND IN 2020

There were 6,577 abortions performed in the Republic in 2020 compared with 6,666 in 2019. 44 of those were performed on non-residents and 194 more were performed on Irish residents in England and Wales. Therefore, the total abortions performed on Irish residents in 2020 was 6,727. This 6,727 is 12% of Irish births and a TFPR of 1.6. A minimum of 2.1 is required for population replacement. The abortion rate is 1,3 per 1,000 population compared to 3.8 for England and Wales. As for last year, the HSE gives no details of women’s age, marital status, number of past abortions et cetera. If they did they would find that legally married women are the least likely to have abortions. All such information is useful to counsellors.
The Government seems worried about graves with marked tombstones for children who died of natural causes in mother and baby homes. What provision are being made for the burial of the 6,577 human beings which the State deprived of life??
